Nang Iwan — This Band
When it comes to a particular type of ‘hugot’ song, sophomore group This Band has got their brand of sound down pat. This much is true with their latest track offering entitled “Nang Iwan.”
And as the title suggests (“Nangiwan” is a Tagalog term for ‘the one who left’ or ‘when you left’), the song is a forlorn treatise about how the dynamic of relationship keels over when one party leaves. Or in other words, it’s confusion and fear of missing out that results in melancholy as depicted in the morose tones of singer Andrea Manzano and words of Euwie Von Loria.
But though the song is about heartbreak in particular, we can’t help but admire the sound that This Band has found; a pop-cum-power-ballad sound with a bit of an edge that’s distinctly Pinoy. But don’t take our word for it, you can listen to This Band admire it yourself.
