Joanna Ampil’s Inspirational ‘The Only Place To Be’

No Comments News

One of West End’s finest, the award-winning theater actress Joanna Ampil is back in the spotlight with her latest single “The Only Place to Be.”

The track is the second single after “Hanggang Saan,” from her self-titled album released by Viva Records, launched back in mid-2014.

With its inspirational undertones, “The Only Place to Be” is an uplifting piece of pop that reminds one of Disney musicals. The song was written by Ed Fox, and was recorded and produced in Los Angeles by Christian de Walden and Ralf Stemmann.

Joanna Ampil, for her part, is on full ‘West End musical’ mode in this track. Ampil highlights the song with the same expressive voice she demonstrated while playing all those classic characters on London’s famed theatre scene.

Preceeding her latest single launch, is a music video of “The Only Place To Be” that has just made its debut at MTV Pinoy. Joanna Ampil’s new video was directed by Paulo Villaluna.

A connection to Ampil’s theatre musical roots is evident in the actresses’ latest song. “The Only Place To Be” could very well be likened to the broadway hits that Ampil is so adept at singing. Of course, it helps that the singer-actress has taken on major roles such as Miss Saigon’s Kim back in 1993, Les Miserables’ Éponine in year 2000 and Fantine in 2003. She also starred in the Philippine re-staging of The Sound of Music as Maria Rainer in 2011, and has toured Europe with the West End cast of Cats’ as Grizabella in 2013. The thespian-turned-recording artist is now re-establishing her self in the local music scene after years of working on the international stage.

The Only Place To Be” is just one of the many tracks from “Joanna Ampil” which also includes the Vehnee Saturno-composed “Hanggang Saan.”

Other tracks in the album are “Won’t You Love Me Again,” “Kung Maaari,” “Old Souls,” Smile,” “Init Sa Magdamag,” and “Fragments of Forever.”

Moreover, Joanna Ampil’s latest record features a duet with balladeer Mark Bautista in “Kumusta Ka.” The concert king Martin Nievera also sings in the song “Never Thought I’d Feel This Way,” while Bristish pop-classical crossover group Blake is in the track “Kailangan Kita.”

The album is available for download at iTunes and can be listened to via streaming at Spotify, Guvera, Deezer, Rdio and all other digital formats. For more of Joanna Ampil, watch and subscribe to vivamusicgroup1 at YouTube.
