Ask John Roa how his collaboration with Sarah Geronimo happened and he’ll be quick to say that he’s as surprised as anyone that the thing actually took place in the first place.
John Roa revealed as much during an interview with Bulletin Entertainment weeks before the new music video for “Alam” premiered last Sunday evening.
“Matagal na rin yun na proposal project,” said John on how his association with the Popstar Royalty for “Alam” happened.
“Actually, (felt) guilty kasi nagkaroon ako ng writer’s block na sobrang tagal kaya (delayed yung work) but this year was different. I’m working with Jin Chan (co-writer) and when Ms. Sarah G sent an arrangement and a concept for the song so dun na namin nabuo.”
As for recording with SG, Roa said that initially he thought that he was only writing for her.
“Yun palang is already an honor, so nung sinabi ni Ms. Sarah na we’re singing together sa song, biglaan din nasabi ko, ‘Ha! Collab pala ‘to!”
John Roa shared that he’s happy that Sarah G liked his work but that he never went ahead and expected more. But when the opportunity to sing with the latter presented itself, John Roa just went with it.
“Nasa point ako na kailangan ko lang gawin ito kasi ito yung moment na binigay sa kin na opportunity,” John shared, adding: “Yung universe na itself yung nagbibigay ng collaboration na yun para sa akin.”
John Roa, writing with Jin Chan on “Alam” eventually recorded the track and just recently, can be seen on the music video for “Alam” singing and dancing with Sarah Geronimo.
John Roa is also at his most prolific in years, and just like Sarah Geronimo, has been releasing singles left and right, his latest being the inspirational-themed R&B “Right Time.”
