On February 4, actor and singer-songwriter Wilbert Ross premiered the music video for his latest track, “Makaluma,” featuring performances by Krissha Viaje and Jerome Ponce.
The return of Krissha and Jerome (KrisshRome) as an on-screen pairing elated the fans and sparked a significant reaction from viewers, including praise for their chemistry and the flawless execution of transitions between scenes. Wilbert Ross also explored the intricacies of Original Pinoy Music (OPM) by writing a verse in the Cebuano dialect, which received positive feedback.
The KrisshRome romantic duo first took off in 2023 when they were cast as Hiro and Yanna in “Safe Skies, Archer,” a Viva One adaptation of The University Series by Gwy Saludes.
Reaching the #22 spot among trending topics for Music on YouTube, “Makaluma” showcased the rich culture of courtship in the Philippines.
Wilbert highlighted how Filipinos value consent when asking for someone’s hand. From seeking parents’ approval before a suitor can take out their beloved, to sending love gifts in form of flowers, chocolates, or love letters, and even voluntarily becoming a wood chopper or kargador for the family, all these gestures show declarations of love.
To top off these practices, a suitor may also dedicate a harana, a traditional form of courtship wherein a suitor performs a song in front of their beloved’s house.
